WrestleMania Weekend Recap: One Match Saved It… Everything Else Fell Flat

WrestleMania is supposed to be can’t-miss. The biggest stage. The show that defines the entire year of WWE.

This year? It felt like a rushed premium live event stretched across two nights—with only one truly elite match carrying the entire weekend.

Let’s break it all down.

The Only Thing That Lived Up to the Hype

Punk vs. Roman: A Legit 5-Star Classic

This was WrestleMania.

CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns delivered on every level—storytelling, pacing, emotion, and elite in-ring work. Every near fall mattered. Every moment had weight.

This wasn’t just the best match of the weekend—it was the only match that felt like WrestleMania.

And honestly? That’s a problem.

The Moments That Actually Meant Something

Oba vs. Brock: Passing the Torch

Oba defeating Brock Lesnar—and Brock choosing him to retire him—was one of the most heartfelt moments of the weekend.

It felt real. It felt earned. It felt like the kind of moment WrestleMania is built for.

Gunther vs. Rollins: Night 1 Steals the Show

This was easily the best match of Night 1.

Gunther and Seth Rollins delivered a hard-hitting, high-level match that actually had structure and time to breathe. The finish with Bron Breakker returning and spearing Rollins?

That’s how you build forward.

You can already see the setup:
Bron Breakker vs. Seth Rollins at SummerSlam.

The “Should Have Been Better” Tier

Cody vs. Randy: A Feud Saved by a Heel Turn

The match? Underwhelming.

Cody just isn’t hitting the same anymore, and this match proved it. But Randy Orton turning heel—and hitting the punt (called it)—completely changed the trajectory.

This feud now has real life again and could easily carry into SummerSlam.

Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre: All Build, No Payoff

This one might be the biggest disappointment of the entire weekend.

For weeks, these two couldn’t stay away from each other:

  • Backstage fights
  • Parking lot brawls
  • Even climbing buildings

It felt like a guaranteed show-stealer.

Instead? We got… nothing.

Flat. Disconnected. Completely missed the intensity they built.

Demon Finn Balor: All Style, No Substance

The Demon returned—and that alone should’ve made this feel massive.

But the “street fight” felt like anything but:

  • A few chair shots
  • Kendo sticks
  • Two tables

That’s not WrestleMania-level chaos. No crowd brawl. No real brutality. No edge.

Just another rushed match that never got out of first gear.

Rhea vs. Jade: One Highlight

Rhea Ripley winning again isn’t the issue—but it felt oddly timed.

The match itself lacked energy, but the Riptide reversal finish? That was clean and memorable.

Unfortunately, that was the only real moment.

Cool Moments… With No Substance

Uso’s & LA Knight vs. Vision & iShowSpeed

This felt more like a viral segment than a WrestleMania match.

Very short. Very rushed.

The only standout? The iShowSpeed announcer table spot—which, to be fair, was fun.

But that’s not enough for WrestleMania.

Paige & Brie Bella Reunion

Seeing Paige back was genuinely cool.

But like most of this card—it didn’t get time. The match felt rushed and never reached the level the moment deserved.

Another missed opportunity.

AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch: Ending a Feud… Quietly

At least this feud is finally over.

Personally, AJ Lee should’ve gone over, especially if you’re teasing something bigger like:
AJ Lee vs. Paige for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship

Feels like WWE might give AJ a break and revisit that down the line—possibly next WrestleMania.

6-Man Ladder Match (IC Title): Chaos Without Direction

Ladder matches are supposed to steal the show—and this had moments.

Je’Von Evans getting a spotlight was a great move for the future.

But keeping the title on Penta? Not sure about that decision yet. This feels like a “wait and see” situation.

Sami vs. Trick: Missed Opportunity

This was just… boring.

Trick winning the U.S. Title is fine—but this wasn’t the matchup to make it matter.

Trick vs. Carmelo Hayes on this stage? That’s a WrestleMania moment waiting to happen.

This wasn’t.

Liv vs. Vaquer: Why Was This Even Here?

Short. Rushed. Pointless.

The Biggest Issue: This Didn’t Feel Like WrestleMania

This is where everything falls apart.

Most matches were 5–10 minutes long.

That’s unacceptable for WrestleMania.

Fans would gladly stay up late for longer matches with real storytelling. Instead, it felt like WWE rushed through the card just to say they did two nights.

This entire show could’ve been:
👉 One night
👉 Tighter card
👉 Better pacing

And it probably would’ve been better.

Triple H’s Long-Term Vision… But Where Is It?

I get it—Triple H is all about long-term storytelling.

But coming out of this WrestleMania?

There are maybe 2–3 real storylines you can point to:

  • Cody vs. Randy
  • Rollins vs. Breakker
  • Possibly AJ vs. Paige

That’s it.

For the biggest show of the year… that’s not enough.

Final Grade: D

That’s where this lands.

  • One 5-star match
  • A couple solid moments
  • A TON of rushed, forgettable matches

Right now? WWE has a lot to fix.

Honest takes. Bold opinions… we keep it REEL.
